We have three computers in our house. They're all connected through a
router, then the router is connected to the cable modem. Is there a way
that we can share files that any of the three computers can access without
buying additional hardware or software? Thanks. By the way, two of the
computers have Windows XP Home and the other has Windows 98SE.

Okay, thanks. Now I have another question. Let's say the 1st computer of
the three has to be reformatted. Will we have to setup the network all over
again or will we just have to set up the 1st computer again?

No to the first part, yes to the second.

Okay, thanks Malke.
Just got the network set up and I can share files now, except for one
problem. On the one computer with Windows 98, I can access it through my
computer. The problem is on the computer with Windows 98. When you're on
the computer with Windows 98, and you attempt to access the network through
network neighborhood, it's says that you can't access the network. Any idea
why? The XP computers work fine.

Never mind... figured it out.

On the WinXP computers, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be
able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly. Also, if running WinXP SP1, make sure that WinXP's
built-in firewall is disabled on the internal LAN connection. If using
WinXP SP2, make sure that you've either disabled the built-in firewall,
or set the firewall to allow file and print sharing.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
easy-to-follow information in WinXP's Help & Support files, and here:
