Sharing files over network

Hi,

I've got two XP machines, A and B. Both are SP2, fully patched.

Machine A is my general use PC, and B is my download machine.
B is a headless system on my network which i remote desktop into from A
to set bearshare and bittorrent etc. downloading stuff.

When either of these have finished downloading a file, they move it to a
"downloads" folder which is publicly shared on my network, with "allow
users to change my files" checked.

When i look at the downloads folder on B, from A, I can see its
contents. When i try and access a newly downloaded file i get "access
denied". I have to remote desktop in, goto the download folder sharing
properties, uncheck "allow users to change my files", press apply, check
the option again and then re-apply.

Does anyone know of a workaround to make it do this automatically?

Thanks

Andrew

It should be done automatically. Are you sure the downloading app isn't
still using the file. I have a setup very similar to yours. A main computer
for gaming, word processing etc and another computer for internet. I
download on it and access the files from my main comp and the only time I
can't access files is if my torrent client is still in charge of the file.

Are both computers setup to use "simple file sharing"? Are you using a
router or Internet Connection Sharing? Run the network setup wizard again
making sure to run it on the main (master) computer first then the second.
What firewall are you using?

Well, If I don't touch the torrent program and re-apply the sharing
settings it works. So I'd say not.

What do you mean?

Router, Linksys
What firewall are you using?

Latest Zonealarm Pro, setup to allow local traffic
