I used to transfer large files over the internet to other
computers. This was with Windows 98. I had a LAN with a
hub and I would simply share a folder on my computer and
then go to another computer, go to the command line, and
type //xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/sharename$ and then press enter
(the x's refer to my own computer's IP address). This
would open a folder displaying the files in my shared
folder. That worked great.
Now I have a LAN with Windows XP Pro and a LinkSys Router.
The router has a 216.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address. My computer
has a 192.168.1.105 address. I would like to do the same
thing as mentioned above. However when I type the address
of my router into the command line e.g.
//216.xxx.xxx.xxx/sharename$ it brings up a dialog box
that states:
"Connecting to 216.xxx.xxx.xxx" and then it has a prompt
for the user name and password. However if I leave my user
name blank and type in my password "admin" (factory
default) it doesn't let me in.
How do I access a shared folder over the net when that
folder is on a Win XP Pro machine behind a LinkSys Router?!
Thanks if you have an answer!!
