Hello,
I have a network with the following:
Windows server 2003 SMB
Four desktops and a laptop.

What I would like to do is take my 250gb hard dirve which is on my computer
and share that with my wife and the lap top since we are going to throw all
of our pictures on there from the digital camera.

How do I do this so that we can share all of the pictures between the two of
us.

Thanks for the help,

In order to help there are a few details needed. Do you mean Small Business
Server 2003? If it's SBS 2003 or the server is configured to be a domain
controller are all the computers joined to the domain? If you're using a
workgroup and the server is just a file server what OS are the computers
that will be sharing the 250 GB drive using (e.g. XP Pro, XP Home, Windows
2000 Pro, Windows 98)? Does it matter if the other computers can see the
photos or do you want to restrict access to just the two of you?

Sorry about leaving the information out, Here it is
The SBS 2003 is the domain controller and all the computers joined the
domain. All the computers have windows XP pro. No it doesn't matter who else
on the network can see the photos.

The sbs 2003 is the exchange server which controls the e-mail it was the web
server as well until I moved the web else where.

I hope this helps.

Create a folder on the drive. I prefer to share folders rather than drives
even if there is only the one folder on the drive. Share the folder. Make
sure the "domain users" group has full share and NTFS permissions. Remove
the "everyone" group from the NTFS permissions. Anyone logged on to the
domain will be able to get full access to the files. Anyone not logged on to
the domain (e.g. some unknown wireless connection) won't be able to access
the files.

I have done but how do I access the folder from my laptop and the other
computers. Everytime I try and connect to the folder it says the following

mydomain is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you hav access permissions.

This lis of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

Is there something on the server that I need to do in order for this to
work??

Thanks for the help.

It sounds like the computers are either not joined to the domain or more
likely the DNS settings are misconfigured. Can you post the results of
ipconfig /all from one of the pc's and the server? Can you ping the server?
Can the computers ping each other? Do you have any 3rd party firewall
software on any of the computers?

Changing the DNS settings is what caused your problem. SBS 2003 needs to
manage DNS and really likes to manage DHCP, and WINS. You need to use the
wizards on the SBS server to get it all working properly. Any other route to
setting up a SBS 2003 server will almost always fail. Rerun the CEICW wizard
on the SBS server and see what happens. This should setup all the clients to
use the SBS server for DHCP and DNS. Make sure you disable any other DHCP
servers and all the clients are using DHCP. If this breaks the access to
your web site then post back with more details. Changing the clients to use
your ISP's DNS servers is not the correct fix. Another possible problem I
see is you have two adapters in the server on the same subnet. This is not a
recommended setup. Normally in a SBS server with two NICS the topology would
be Router - Nic1 - SBS - NIC2 - Internal network. The router and NIC1 would
be a different subnet from your internal network.

If your router is also your access point then you need a different network
setup. You need to go to a one NIC setup on the server. The setup would look
like this:

Router
| | |
Server Workstation Workstation

You would still need to let the server do DNS and DHCP. Setup the network
and rerun the CEICW wizard and specify a one NIC configuration. When
uninstalling the NIC make sure you go into the device manager and uninstall
the NIC before you physically remove it.

Note that this is not as secure as the previous configuration. My
recommendation would be to add an access point to the internal network on
your present configuration and disable the wireless on the router.

One thing I forgot to mention about the one NIC server setup. You need to
turn off DHCP on the router.
