\\machinename\printersharename
doesn't work?
I DONT SEE ANY COMPUTERS OR PRINTERS ON THE NETWORK

What does that mean to you?
None of the machines I manage in a business environment see any of
the other machines in Network Neighborhood - on purpose.. But when I
try to connect to them via IP or direct interface (like command line
and using the machine name) it works *if* I have them allowed to do
so in the firewall configuration.
So, I ask you again.. If you have the printer installed on the
machine and it shared out properly and either its firewall turned off
or printer/file sharing allowed through the firewall on that machine
and you go to another machine and:
Start --> Run
\\machinename\
and click ok - what happens?
What about:
Start --> Run
\\machineipaddress\
and click ok - what happens?

And as a side-note - you know no one workstation (XP Professional)
can have more than 10 connections to it at any given time.. So if
you had 10 machines and one of those machines were sharing a printer
to the other 9 - then that machine has (when the other machines
access the printer share) pretty well reached its limit. If you
added an 11th machine - it could be that it cannot see the printer
because of lack of connection availability on the sharing workstation
OS.
Also - what DNS are all of these machines using? Or are you using
WINS? Or perhaps a hosts file?
well i have 8 pc's and they are all running on windows home ed. i
tried the start/run/machinename and it works but i cannot find the
machine or the path was not found....
im useing win 2003 server to manage my ip address
Windows XP Home edition?!
HOME?
That part still has me in awe.
That has an even greater limitation on "connections" than XP Professional.
Windows Xp Home Edtion allows only 5 connections to be made to a
workstation.
If you hooked the printers to the Server (Windows 2003) you claim to have
and share it there - you may be able to map it from the other machines. The
Windows 2003 server will not have the same limitations on connections that
the workstation OS (Windows XP Home with 5 and Windows XP Professional with
10) does.
Also - you say you are using Windows 2003 to manage your IP Addresses - so
it is acting as your NAT box? Or is it just your DHCP server? Does it have
DNS installed?
I am still confused by your whole supposed setup. You stated (originally)
you had installed a printer on a workstation and were able to share it with
10 workstations. Now you are down to eight (8) Windows XP Home machines and
one (1) Windows 2003 machine. No idea which machine(s) have the printers
hooked to them and shared out.. No real idea if you have any other machines
in the mix here - no idea if Windows 2003 to you is Windows Small Business
Server 2003, Windows Standard Edition 2003 or what?!
Perhaps a bit more detail on your setup and someone could help you.
