Although there are mixed reports on using shared workbooks (and infact the
general view is don't touch them with a barge pole) is there any limitation
on the number of users who can share one workbook.

Perhaps someone with more experience will speak up, but my understanding is that
what you're asking is a server question, not an Excel question. It's not clear
to me that Excel even knows more than one person is using the file. The
question would be how many people will your server allow to access a file -
Excel or otherwise.
