Shared Documents broke on XP Home

Right then - not sure if this is the right place to put this but it looks
good enough.

My shared documents folder is all knackered up. I never use
the thing but it's stopping me from installing SP2 so I want it fixed.

I'm on XP Home. Now it's not allowing me to delete or overwrite anything in
Shared Music, I've been into safe mode and played with the settings (which
were all wierd) and it hasn't helped. How can I reset this folder to make it
work again?

Pete

just a bit of extra information about my problem.

I've set security permissions in Safe Mode, I've set
everything in AllUsers/Shared Documents to inherit
permissions but the two playlist folders (My Playlists
and Shared Playlists) are refusing to pick up those
settings and the Add button is greyed out.

I cannot delete the files from within WMP either.

Any ideas?

Try the restore feature. Restores computer to a previous date before it was corrupted. good luck!

I turned that thing off. Plus this has been happening for
months it's just it hasn't been a problem till today.

thanks anyways.

Are you sure you *want* SP2 on your computer? The only version around is a
beta version, and is more likely to mess up your computer than to help it.

yes I do want it on my computer.

Either way I want to be able to delete these two folders which are refusing
to go away.

Maybe a little more information might help. For example, what are the
folders you are trying to delete, what is in them, what happens when you try
to delete them? Any error messages?

And you said you "played with settings" and they were "all weird." More
detail on that would be helpful as well. Otherwise there isn't enough info
to even take a wild guess.

And keep in mind that when you install SP2 you'll get NO support at all, not
even from these newsgroups, probably, unless you're an official beta tester,
then you need to go to those groups. And there's a good chance you'll end up
having to format your system to get rid of the beta service pack when the
official one comes out. If you're aware of all that and you're comfortable
downloading from unauthorized sites, have fun...I certainly wouldn't do it
on a computer that I actually had to use, though.
