Hi,

I am using Outlook 2000 in my office. We have a small peer-to-peer LAN and
we are using MS mail for intra-office email. I would like to share my
Outlook calendar with a few others on the LAN. Can anyone tell me..

1. Is this possible?

2. If so, where can I read up on how to do it?

3. Are there any improvements in newer versions of Outlook that would make
upgrading a good idea if I want to use this feature.

Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul

If you simplay want others to view your calendar only throught their own
Outlook account, then yes, this is possible.

You first need to give each user permission to access your mailbox.
Right-click on Outlook Today (using folder view), and go to Properties.
Select the Permissions tab. Add the user, and set their Permissions Level.

Then give each use permission to view your calendar, using the same process.

You now need to get each user to add you as an additional mailbox. Using
their mail account, go to Tolls and then Email Accounts. Select View or
change Exisitng email accounts and click on Next. then click on Change. clcik
on More settings, then the Advanced tab. clcik on Add to add another mailbox.
type in your user name. clcik on Ok, Ok, Ok, etc until finished.

Your mailbox will now appear intheir list of mailboxes, with only permission
to view your calendar (they will not be able to see your inbox, contacts, etc.

alternatively, youir mail administrator can do this via the Exchange Server.

Hi Kathryn,

Thanks for your response. Just to make sure I understand, does your
solution require that I have an Exchange server? Because I don't have one.
I am just using the old Microsoft Mail that I don't even think is
officially supported in newer versions of Outlook.

That being said, if I add my MS mail mailbox to another user's Outlook
profile on another computer, will that user will be able to see my calendar
items (as long as I have granted permission to that user for Outlook Today
and my calendar folder itself)? Are calendar items even stored in the MS
Mail postoffice? I always thought they were stored locally in my .pst
file.

Thanks again,
Paul

Hi Paul

Sorry, I assumed that you were using an Exchange server.

To be honest, I really don't know about your specific situation. all I can
suggest is that you 'suck it and see' as they say. However, if your calendar
is saving to a local .pst file and not to a shared server as you suggest,
then I would imagine that there may be some problem with the other machines
not having access to your local drive. I guess that depends on how your
network security is set up.

sorry that I can't be of any further help

cheers

Kath
