Share the outlook data file

Outlook 2003

Windows XP Pro

We have the outlook data file saved on our server, the file type is NOT pst.
but it's the 2003 type, now we wanted to be able to use the same file from
several computers, we achieved this, but we can only access the file from 1
computer at a time, not 2 computers at once; doe's anyone know how to get
around this issue and to have it work for 2 computers at once. ?

I believe that most of the Outlook files (pst and
equivalent) need to have single user exclusive access at
any one time, the only way round this that I know of is to
have Microsoft Exchange installed and use items such as
Public folders. I might be wrong but I dont think that the
architecture has changed that much

My apologies if I am wrong, can anyone else correct me ?

No, you are correct. The Outlook .pst file (ansi or unicode = 97-2002 or
2003 format) requires exclusive read/write access by one machine at a time.
It cannot be shared.

It's fairly easy to share the Outlook Express message store, but your
question is best addressed in an Outlook Express newsgroup.
