Over the past 2-1/2 years, I have used the Start, Run sfc /scannow several
times just to see what would happen on WinXP Pro. The message you see when
it runs says, "Please wait while Windows verifies that all protected Windows
files are intact and in their original versions." Now I imagine it is
checking my systems files against the original installation disk. My
question is, if it compares my system files with the original installation
disk, and I have installed ALL updates including SP1 and everything else,
how would it be able to correct any problems since I would imagine a
significant percentage of my system files have been modified from their
original versions through the update process? Or, put another way, is
running the System File Checker still an effective way of correcting damaged
system files after so many updates?
Just curious....
