I've tried using the above command to no avail. When the
program asks for the XP Home Edition disc, I insert it,
but it reports that the CD is not the solicited one. I
suspected this to be due to the fact that I've got SP1
installed on my PC. So, I find a way of creating a
bootable XP SP1a CD (http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?
ttid=157). That didn't work, either. It keeps asking
for the XP disc. Someone suggested I use the command
sfc /purgecache prior to running sfc /scannow. That
didn't work, either. Any help would be appreciated!

Running SFC,shouldnt matter as to the problem, insert the
xp cd solo, does the os recognize it,exit the info page,
open cmd,type:Sfc /Scannow
If its not recognizing the cd,try useing the cdrw drive,
or uninstall cdrom in device mgr.reboot computer, retry.
W/O the xp cd being recognized, tachtech isnt going to
help you one bit.

Kris, the only work around I found to the problem is to keep hitting Retry
over and over and it will finally complete.

It's not either of the CD drives. Both are working well.
I also started SFC from the command prompt and it kept
doing the same.

I've inserted it first and after typing the sfc command
with the same result every time

Sorry to labour this point but have you tried it allready inserted in both
drives ?
I found that on one of my CD-drives that it needed to be thiere first but
not the other drive.

I have SP1, but get no complaints using the original XPHE-CD

Can you copy the XP-CD to your HD to test if it can be read without error?

I've tried using both drives. As for your other point of
copying the CD unto my hard drive, I think the sfc
program only is programmed to seek the files from a cd-
rom not the computer.
