Whether the XP firewall is enabled or not, my machine is
somehow not allowing programs to communicate with my ISP.
No other firewalls are active. A few work (ie. Netscape,
Outlook, Outlook Express, Quicken and IE). Others cannot
find the connection (TaxCut, freeRip, and others).

Any ideas as to what to look at. This is a standard dial-
up. It should not be too tough.

If you go Newtork connections and right click the dial up
icon and select properties.

On the new window select advandced
Select settings at the bottom
This will bring up a list of programs/services that have
access through your firewall to the internet.
Most major servics/programs are listed there, If it is
listed make sure there is a tick in the box next to it.

if it isn't you need to add them. However you need to now
what port they use to access the net.
