Hi All,
I have several problems with my XP HE that I hope
someone would be kind enough to address:
1. I cannot log into any new e-mail accounts even after
setting myself up as an additional user. I am the
administrater of this computer and the only user. I am
trying to create another yahoo account so that I can
phase out my old one because I wish to change my
username. Even after deleting all cookies, history files,
and password lists, I still cannot log into the new
account that I had successfully created the day before. I
also created an account with another internet based e-
mail company that I have never used bofore, and I cannot
log into them either. I tried to change my passport
account settings, and after I enter my new username and
passwords, I get a message telling me that my username
and password cannot be the same. They weren't even close
to being the same! I can, however, automatically log in
to my ISP, and I can still manually log in to my old e-
mail accounts. I have already tried using System Restore,
but that didn't help at all. Norton System works can't
find any problems either, and scandisk and defrag doesn't
help either. In fact, System Restore may have made things
worse. Since using System Restore, Wordpad now clumps
pasted text in a solid block instead of keepind the
origional paragraph format. (note: problem 3 may be
related to problem 1)
2. My first time installing XP, all of my keys on my
Adesso MCK-8000 Power Office Keyboard worked. After this
installation, the numberpad on the right side of my board
doesn't work. Sometimes, when I hit a key in that block,
I hear a beep from the computer tower. (note: I know that
I didn't try to use those keys to log in to my e-mail
sites on my above mentioned password problem). The reason
that I had to re-install XP was because the first time, I
forced XP to accept non-signed software, and it acted
very buggy. I re-installed XP only and let it decide what
to install as much as possible this time. Since XP didn't
allow all of my keys to work, I went online to get the
freshest keyboard driver, uninstalled the current
keyboard driver, and installed the new one. (required 2
restarts even though I done them both at the same time).
3. I downloaded the Netscape 7.1 browser, and it worked
fine at first. Today, I successfully logged on Netscapes
version of OE, which connects to my local ISP e-mail
account. I also successfully loaded my home page on the
browser. I ran into a problem though when I tried to
check my online Netscape e-mail account. After I filled
in my username and password, the page just keeps
reloading over and over again, without displaying
anything other than the white screen.
I sure hope that someone here can help me out. I've only
had the current installation of XP for about 2 weeks, and
I would hate to have to reinstall it and download all
updates again on my 56K modem.
In case it matters:
Previous computer experience: W98 since Dec '98
System: Athlon XP 2500 Barton, ASUS A7N8X deluxe mobo, 1
GB Corsair matched memory pair of DDRAM, 20 GB WD HD.
