i am not an expert but i do have some literacy in 'puters--i have a dell optiplex gx1 that came with xp pro installed (will never do that again) and i am having several problems-

first- my task manager is missing-i have done a search: no results--did run taskmngr.exe: no result--when i left click on task bar, the task manager is an option but clicking it does nothing-can i download the file somewhere

2nd- i was surfing last friday and got disconnected-then when trying to disconnect the 'puter told me there was a rundll as an app error and automatically restarted--did a syst restore & then my internet program(aol of course) told me that there was an error and to reinstall software--when i did that it wouldn't reinstall---anyways i called aol and they said my modem crashed--i installed another isp & it worked perfect--i guessed it was yet another aol glitch(i'd quit 'em but i have a 12 month contract)--now when i try to connect i get the same rundll error--my modem works fine so i think there's a file corrupt somewhere--any ideas

as long as i do not click the ok button-my 'puter won't restart on me--the only way i can connect is to go thru startup & then just leave the error message alone & launch explorer--i am dumbfounde
thanks for any hel

Hello
There are virus' out there that prevent you from opening different programs
and applications.
Download, Update & Run ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Download & Run a free virus scan to double check your current one.
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Scanners.htm

Be sure to visit MS Windows Update site and download the updates this is for
your security and safety.

www.windowsupdate.com

The thing most people do not know is that after they buy a computer with
virus protection installed they have to go in and register and download the
updates and continue to update it or set it to auto update then after a
period of time the subscription will run out usually in 90-180 days at that
time they will have to purchase new protection either online or from a
retail store and at that time they will be able to update for a period of
365 days (1 year).
