Several footnotes on the same line

Does anyone know if it's possible to put several footnotes on the same line,
while the principal text has only one column ? how ?
(This is useful when some footnotes are short : you can gain place)
Thanks
Jean-Baptiste Lecuit

Example :

blah (1) blah blah blah blah (2) blah blah blah blah blah (3) blah blah
blah blah (4) blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
(1) text of note 1 (2) text of note 2 (3) text of note 3
(4) text of note 4 blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Excellent idea, but Word keeps reserving as many lines as notes, whereas I
want to gain space
Thanks anyway

Did you try printing or print previewing?

I only tried print previewing : All notes stay on the same line, but the
separating line reminds on the same place, leaving blank space underneath
(I won't have any printer available until a few hours)

I see the problem. I suspect there is nothing you can do about it (or
perhaps someone can figure out a workaround?).

That's what I was afraid of...
