Setup switch

I am moving a HD complete with OS ( XP Pro) from one system to another. The
mobo and chipset is different. I recall a MS Tech telling me about a switch
to the setup.exe program that would force the setup to ignore the current
registry and rebuild it from scratch.

My memory is a bit vague on this but basically it forced the rebuild.

Anyone know what I'm referring to?

Thanx,

Vic Baron

If you have the ability to do it. Go into the Device Mangler and remove
ALL devices, shut down the computer then replace the HD is a idfferent
system. I have replaced drives several times this way and it is somewhat
easier than doing a repair install. Mostly using teh same type of chipset
but a faster processor. If you are switching say from AMD to Intel, then
it would be best to run the repair option and hope everything works out.
YMMV though.

Vic you might be surprised at the number of people who try
to get information on this site in order to cheat a
software vendor. Forgive me if you were offended . . .

Apology accepted. I am very aware of the number of pirates floating around.
I guess I could have given more info on what I was looking for. I've done
repair installs before but I must have been thinking about W98 setup.

The memory is the first thing to go, I forget what's next.

Hi Chris -

That's an interesting approach. When I rebuild one of my secondary systems
I'll give it a try.

Thanx,

Vic
