Hi, wojo.
Mine does.
Which root directory did you have in mind? I did have C:\io.sys, but I
renamed it to io.syx and rebooted into WinXP just fine. My boot folder is
D:\WinNT; there never was a D:\io.sys. There are archived copies of io.sys
in various folders on Drive M: and other places in my computer, but they
have nothing to do with booting WinXP. Heck, there's even an L:\io.sys in
the volume where I have installed the PDC version of Windows Longhorn - but
that io.sys is only 2 bytes long. Each of my working io.sys files are
222,390 bytes long and are dated 5/11/98 (the original Win98) or 12/4/98
(the WinME version). The copy in C:\EBD is the WinME version; this is the
one WinXP uses when it creates an MS-DOS boot floppy.
But none of these io.sys files have anything to do with booting or running
WinXP.
