I have XP pro and am trying to setup certain user accounts for different
purposes. 1 account for authoring DVDs and other intensive activities where
I want to only load minimal services, drivers maybe even disable the network
card and spyware s/w.
Another account I want to make as secure as possible though internet access
will be required. Can anyone please point me in the right direction as my
XP knowledge is not that great.
Running SP2

Thanks

Hi Peter,

Go and check into Hardware Profiles.
Go to System Properties, Hardware tab and create a second (third, etc. as
the case may be) Hardware Profile with a descriptive name.
Now restart your machine and on the Hardware Profile selection menu
presented, chose the new profile.
Next go into System Properties, Device Manager, select a specific device
that you do *not* want active in this profile and make that selection in the
General tab, bottom drop-down menu: Do not use this device (disable).
Do this for each device you don't want active when choosing *this* hardware
profile.
Now go into Administrative tools, Services (or start cmd prompt and type
services.msc)
Select the properties of a service that you want to manage and on the Log On
tab (bottom half) you can indicate in which profile(s) you want this service
enabled or disabled.

This way you can have multiple Profiles to be chosen upon system start and
these profile settings will dictate what devices and services are available
and started.
