Setting up network

Hi,

I have a TabletPC running XP pro and a Dell also running XP pro. I have a
cable modem (Adelphia) and connect to Net via Ethernet broadband router.

I'm running Norton Security, but firewall is disabled. Internet Firewall
Connection is also disabled.

Dell can access Internet but we can't share files and Dell can't print (but
Tablet can). Router has both computers and both printers plugged in and
active. Tablet can't ping Dell and vice versa.

So, what's wrong? What's really frustrating is that when I got Tablet last
November, I set up everything and it worked. Recently, Dell got a ton of
viruses and hubby spent a week cleaning it up. Now, it can't access rest of
network :-(.

Thanks in advance!

Typical setup here... Check that the router is running
DHCP and make sure that both clients are set to "Obtain an
IP address automatically"

If that doesn't work, manually set the client's IP
addresses in the same range as the router (usually
something like 192.168.1.xxx) the router is usually .1 so
set the other machines to .100 and .101 Also make sure
that you set the gateway address on the clients to the
router's IP address (i.e. 192.168.1.1) and the DNS
settings to the address given to you by your ISP. Subnet
is usually 255.255.255.0

Another note on firewalls... best practice to only have
one running (like you've stated) in this case the one
included with your router would be the one to use.
Firewalls in individual machines can deny access to each
other.

Hope this fixes it for you.
