I am unable to send messages from Windows mail. I get an error message:
The host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Subject 'Windows', Account: 'POP3', Server: 'SMTP', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Help! I am sure that at one point I started setting up Windows Mail but
never completed it, but at this point I am at a loss.

'SMTP' is not a valid server name, although it is a valid protocol. The
correct
server names depends on which email provider you are using. Many people
choose their internet provider as their email provider also, since most
internet accounts include one or more email accounts. Ask your email
provider for their instructions for setting up to use their email servers.
If they
haven't written instructions for Windows Mail yet, their instructions for
Outlook Express should work under Windows Mail also if they don't call
for the HTTP protocol. The instructions are probably somewhere on
their web site. Or, you could tell us who your email provider is and see if
anyone here already knows where to find their instructions.

Well, you can't send email until you finish configuring WM. Your email
provider should have a help page on their website with the correct server
names and settings.
Or tell us who your email provider is, and someone can point you in the
right direction.

the email provider is "telenet" in Belgium
Er is een onbekende fout opgetreden. Onderwerp 'bericht voor Julie Van den
Eede', Account: 'mail.chello.be', Server: 'mail.chello.be', Protocol: SMTP,
Reactie van server: '421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 195.130.132.55
(195.130.132.55:25), connect error 10061', Poort: 25, Beveiligd(SSL): Nee,
Serverfout: 421, Foutnummer: 0x800CCC67
This is the error messsage I recieve
Can you help me with fixing it?

Thanks

I'll try for the part I can recognize, since much of it is a language I
don't
read.

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If it does, such
connections
to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers. In this case,
ask
your email provider if their outgoing email server listens for outgoing
mail,
and if so, the details of switching to the other port. Just trying all the
ports
is a very slow way to find out, since there are about 65,000 ports
available.

Also, what if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them tend to
cause
various problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

That IP address 195.130.132.55 belongs to a server named
ming.telenet-ops.be. What is your relationship to telenet-ops.be?
You say the email provider is Telenet, yet you are using a server
belonging to Chello.be. Why this discrepancy?

The general rule is that you must use the SMTP server that
belongs to the entity providing your Internet connection.
