setting up an easy way for defined users to upload files to a sub-web

Having used the help and a reference on FP 2002 and come up bagels, am
hoping I am just "missing it".

I'd thought I could create a subweb(done), and set permissions to the
subweb with a user name and PW (done), then set up a method for allowing
that user to upload files to the subweb area. (not done)

On one of my mindspring account websites it is handled using a cgi
script, but the Earthlink techies say that they cannot do the same on an
earthlink server. <sigh>

The server does have the FP Extensions. is there a way using FP to set
up a button, a disk browse utility, etc ? I don't want the user to have
to have/use a copy of an ftp program .

thanks...

If the server has the FP2002 extensions, then you can use the FP Upload
component. Also the host must allow you to be able to use this component.

Why not ask Earthlink to migrate your sites to a server that will support the FP 2002 SE w/ File Upload
- Believe their "Atlanta" server does and their "Pasadena" server does not

I actually tried that route with some nimrod on tech support who said
they wouldn't, that in fact they were moving everyone OFF of the servers
that allow that and on to those that don't. I pointed out that one of
my sites on one of their servers permits that and they have not notified
me of any forced move/degradation of service, and he backpedaled but
still denied me that as an option. Kinda surprising - it's a PITA to
find the right department for tech support at EL, but once you do they
usually pretend to give a dang. Not this time.
thanks

BTW - I dinked with this feature in FP - I first logged on to the
website using FP, added a new folder and a page, and tried to set
permissions and add a form with the upload feature - it let me do a lot,
but the checkboxes for allowing me to configure the upload feature's
destination remained greyed out. Kinda confusing stuff. Is there a
faq/how to anywhere that might enlighten me on this feature?

Ron

If it is grayed out, then the host doesn't allow you the ability to use this
component.
