Hi,
I have Windows XP Pro SP2 on 2 desktop PCs and I want to set up a LAN
(without internet connection) using a switch.
I ran home networking wizard on both computers but they're not detecting
each other.
The green lights on the switch are OK.
The IP addresses are : 169.254.177.28 and 169.254.205.121
What could be done to solve this problem?
Thanks.

Alex,

How about the lights on the two computers? Do they both indicate physical
connectivity?

How are you diagnosing "they're not detecting each other"? Are you pinging each
from the other?

Are pings successful? Then you need to look at higher level problems.

Are pings not successful? Then you need to look for misconfigured or overlooked
firewalls:

I tried to ping the 2 PCs from each other but it didn't work.

Thx

Alex,

OK, let's start with some basic diagnostics. Since you don't have network
connectivity, you'll have to move files back and forth between the computers, or
hand type from one to the other - that's your choice. But we need basic
diagnostics so we can define your problem.

Start with "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from both computers; read this
article, and linked articles, and give as complete and precise results as
possible:
