Setting up a contact group

I know this is a dumb question but I cannot work out the answer.

All I want to do is to construct an e-mail group - a list of people that I
will collectively e-mail. In XP it was easy - I could right click and then
add to contact group.

Important - I need the contact group to be viisbile in the TO: CC: BCC boxes
when I want to send an e-mail.

To create a group, open Contacts, and click on "New Contact Group"
give it a name, and select from your previously entered contacts...

In a Create Message window, click on To: and the list of contacts will
appear. Your Groups should appear in bold type. when you add a group to an
email, only the group name shows, not all of the included contacts. If you
want to see the names, save the message as a draft first, then reopen it.
 
Thanks Dave for kindly replying. I am able to do the first part of your
suggestion but when I open up Create new e-mail and click on To: the list of
possible recipients is empty, although there are dozens of names in my
contact lits, the select recipients area is empty - that has always been my
problem. Any ideas please? Thanks again!
