Wayne, what is it your'e trying to change? If you open a blank document and
change some settings, there's usually a DEFAULT button, which will change
those settings in normal.dot, Word's default template.
Also, to find the templates folder automatically, you must Save as to a
document template (dot), not a document (doc). Alternatively, go to
Tools-Options, File locations tab and double-click User templates to note
the location of the default template folder. You cannot edit normal.dot if
you have any other files open, you cannot overwrite normal.dot if you have
Word open. You could create a template, save it as normal1.dot. Close Word,
go to the templates directory, delete normal.dot and rename normal1.dot to
normal.dot.

I am trying to set my mother-in-law's computer up for her to use since she
has very poor eyesight (legally blind). In doing so, I tried to set the
"default template" for her word documents but following the directions in
"Help" indicate there should be a "templates" file, which after I click
"File Menu" and then click "Save as" there is no "Template" folder. Any
help with this and any other suggestions that would be helpful for a person
with poor eyesight would be much appreciated.
