Setting default display for programs

I have a laptop that I use in a dual-display configuration sometimes and a
single-display configuration at others. The problem is that when I start up
a program on the second display, then the next time I start it when only one
display is available, the program never appears on the single display, unless
I reboot (want to use Standby), but rebooting causes all my desktop icons to
get moved around as the dual-display setup has the second display as the
primary with a different resolution than the built in laptop display (laptop
display can simulate resolution of other display so no problem). Anyway, am
guessing there is a registry setting that each application has stored away
that tells it which display to start up on. Anyone have any ideas how to
tell the application which display it should start up on??? Thanks

Its usually a setting in yr Dual Display Options, or whatever yr dual
display driver calls it

Dont think this is the case, as many applications remember where they were
last run, so the implication to me is that it is an application specific
issue. This applies o Windows programs like explorer, notepad, etc as well.
There are some programs that dont pay attention to the display they were last
run on, and always go to the primary display no matter which display that
they were last run on.

Well its an option in my dual display driver, as it was in the other dual
display drivers I've used.
ATI and Nvidea

I have looked in the nVidia driver settings and have not found anything that
looks like it controls this setting. What kind of setting did you see on
your system that specified this kind of behavior?? Thanks for the hints.

Download PowerStrip <http://www.entechtaiwan.com/>. This has a lot of
settings, including the option to toggel multiple monitors. I think it
will keep your programs where you want them. I'm not sure if it goes
that far, but it has a lot of other unrelated options to keep you busy
for a while, the most famous being videocard GPU/RAM overclocking.

Firstly I'm using a desktop;
In My Nview Desktop Manager/Windows Tab 'Prevent Windows from opening off
screen'
Also Open Windows On; select from drop down cntrl.
There's also options to set Profiles, and App specific settings.
Nvidia version 6.14.10.6177, allthough settings were available in previous
versions.
BTW, In Hardware Devices what is shown for Display Device?
