Setting custom page width for email Newsletter

How do I set a custom page width (or move the right margin) for an email
Newsletter?

I am trying to make the email newsletter more narrow to match the width of
an image I have in the newsletter. The image size is such that if I keep the
standard width, the image has to be centered on the page rather than filling
the page.

What do you consider standard width?

Usually when laying out an (HTML) newsletter - it is best to keep to
deprecated HTML or inline styles
