Jeff

I received a suspicious email and when I looked at its Properties I found
the following warning:
.....set sender to xxx@xxxx using -f

What does "-f" mean?

Thanks.

That message looks like it was generated by Sendmail (the sender's
(Unix) MTA). It's not really suspicious in itself (but if the whole
message is suspect...) as it happens when Sendmail translates local
usernames/addresses to public ones.

Here's an example from a test message I sent whilst setting up Sendmail:

X-Authentication-Warning: parish.my.domain: mark set sender to
(e-mail address removed) using -f

(I've change my real e-mail address in this post)

Thanks.
