Set Language in Word to English (Australia)

Even though English (Australia) is the enabled language, and I have set the default setting to English (Australia) many times, it always reverts back to English (US). I have also tried setting it to English (Australia) in Normal.dot, but it still doesn't stick. The only way I can get it to stay is to press Ctl+A to select the whole document and then change it. This will then stay with that document only, but reverts again to English (US) for any new document, even though I have selected the default tab. What am I doing wrong? There are lots of spelling differences between English US and English AUS and it is most frustrating.

You have to save the setting in normal.dot (and any other templates on which
your documents are based).

The Windows regional language setting needs to be set up as Australian also.
You would be amazed (maybe not) how many installers leave the Windows
setting at the default US English :(

What language is selected for the Input Locale in Control Panel | Regional
Options? This is where Word gets the language setting for Normal.dot.
