I just went round and round with this error and fixed it for my
machine. Wanted to post this message so that it could be archived for
future use by somebody. Maybe save them some headaches.
My system was a eMachines T2080 - and this problem was resolved by
simply changing which CD drive I booted to. Originally, I put the
WinXP CD into the DVD drive and booted to it - received
SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED when starting setup. After a couple
hours of trying everything - I just popped the CD out and put it into
my CDR drive (out of desperation).
Rebooted and blamo - it works fine now.
Not sure if this will solve everybody's problems - but it worked for
me. It could work for you.
