hi im having trouble started downloading windows service pack 2 4 hours ago
and it has stopped at 48 % any ideas how i can get it going again

Hi,

Cancel it and start again. If BITS is installed and running it should pick
up where it left off. Otherswise, you'll start from scratch but generally
it's impossible to regain a stalled download in Internet Explorer.

reboot.

It will uninstall itself, or it will finish installing.

Either way, if it doesn't run smoothly, you can do a system restore
from the menu.

I have had half-dozen successful Service Pak 2 installs, and yet my
last one (I formatted a week ago), didn't install.

I am fine without it.

I did a system restore, to get rid of the "crumbs".

I'll try again after all my data is restored and re-backed up.

I just lost a month's worth of data. I don't want to do that again.

Be sure when you mess with the system that you back up first.

"Oops!s " can be costly.

I invested in an 80 Gb hdd and an external usb enclosure.

I'm VERY happy with it. You just gotta remember to turn the darn thing
off when you're formatting your main drive!

I've already forgotten and formatted my backup external drive TWICE
now!

Learn from me!
