Service Pack 2 - KB823439 - fix does not work

According to KB823439, SP2 is supposed to correct a problem
encountered when running chkdsk /f on reboot. The problem
is that chkdsk doesn't run and returns the message "Cannot
open volume for direct access."

I had this problem. I applied SP2. I still have this problem.

Ideas?

Are you using Zone Alarm Pro ? It will cause these symptoms. An upgrade to
the newest version is the fix.
