Service Pack 2 Corrupts Desktop Icons

After installing SP2 all my desktop icons become corrupt. Double click them
and computer completely locks up, remove sp 2....goes back to working fine.
Anyone else? any fixes?

Also will Windows moviemaker 2.1 work without the SP 2 patch?

Or was SP-2 installation attempted once?
Was the computer ready for SP-2:

Yes I tried the install several times with same result.
