ServerReference is null

Dear all

In a moment of ignorance, I deleted the NTDS Settings in Sites and Services
for one of the servers in a site. And now I can't get it back.

I've followed instructions in Q312862 Recovering Missing FRS Objects and FRS
Attributes in Active Directory, to change the ServerReference attribute so
it isn't null, but whenever I do this I get a message to say that 'The name
reference is invalid'

I have a bit of a bizarre situation; when I look at sites and services on
that DC the NTDS Settings is there, but if I look at any other server it
isn't.

That DC shows it is replicating properly in replmon; but the other DCs don't
seem to think it exists. I seem to have a split somewhere.

Any clues?

When you deleted the NTDS settings from one of the domain controllers
it was replicated to the other DCs. Deleting this removed the
connection links and therefore wasn't replicated to the DC you are
having a problem with.

Since the deletion was the last operation it will be the one that
takes precedence and the information on the DC that still has the
information won't overwrite anything.

The best and cleanest way to fix this is to demote the problem DC and
then put it back. Since it really isn't replicating you will
probably need to do a forceful demotion and then clean up Active
Directory.
