Server service does not load in automatic setting

The server service does not load in the automatic mode. It hangs the startup
and eventually stops trying and gives me an error in the event log.

I set the service to manual and start the service after booting with no
problem loading.

This is inconveinient but not fatal. Anyone have any ideas as to what in
hanging the service

Had the same problem on a machine with XP SP2 loaded at the factory,
re-service packed it and Server service starts normally. I ran Service Pack 2
from CD, but I'm sure download would work as well.
