Hi all,

I am going to do a migration on my fileserver in a WORKGROUP environment to
a AD environment with RAID one.

Here are my doubts and any advises will be appreciated.

-- After I setup the 2000 server, do I setup the network
services(DNS,DHCP,Appletalk....etc) first and then apply SP 4 or apply SP4
first and then install the network services.

-- My current environment uses Netware 5 with IPX/SPX(no TCP/IP) and I have
WIn98/95 clients and a few 2000 clients, what are the issues I need to take
note during and after the migration.Seems like this is messy and does anyone
has something similar to mine?

Thanks.

Get your server all setup BEFORE you do the service packs. If you add things
after the service packs then you will have to re-apply them.
I assume then that your current server is Novel. If this server will NOT be
used on the NEW network Then remove IPX/SPX from the Win98 machines and
install TCP?IP and set to use your DHCP & DNS (not ISP DNS).
If Novel server will remain then install TCP/IP on the Win98 machines (as
above) and install IPX/SPX on the NEW server.
Main thing to note with Win2K is DNS setup. To make your life easier with
the Win2K server setup a Primary Zone for YOUR network. Have it forward
requests to your ISP's DNS and have ALL clients use YOUR DNS server.

Oh I'm sorry...Think I am not clear enough.

My fileserver is currently running on Windows 2000(WORKGROUP) and I have
another server running Netware 5.

Netware 5 still needs to be around after the migration.
