Server extensions

I don't know much about server extensions, but I have them installed and
working on my local server and my Access database update progams are working
fine.

This is a basic question I know, but are the permissions I set for the files
and folders via the security tab on Start/Explore and Administrative
Tools/IIS carried forward when it's uploaded?

I'm asking because I've uploaded it to my ISP and they've set up FP server
extensions 2002.

When I just tried to re-upload my database (due to slight changes in some
field lengths) I'm getting "Server error - the server extensions were unable
to access the file "myfile.mdb" Please check the file permissions."

Is this something I can do, perhaps via FrontPage connected to the web and
Tools/Permissions, or is this something my ISP have to sort out for me?

The database is in a subweb, by the way.

Thanks for any enlightenment!

Jackie

In most case the permissions you set locally are transfer to the remote
server. Just contact your host and ask them to run a check on the extensions
or check the permissions on the fpdb folder and the database.

You can also get this type of error, if a site user had the db open for
writing at the time of your upload, etc.

well, I think that the database might be locked. I don't know why, because
this all works fine on my local server (or I wouldn't have uploaded it!) and
I don't know how to get out of it. I've checked the fpdb folder, and there
is only the .mdb file in there.

I found the place where the database connection was being opened but not
closed again, corrected it, and uploaded the new pages but it hasn't made
any difference. I get error : Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Could
not use '(unknown)'; file already in use.

How can I unlock the database?

If this is on the live site, then you have to contact your host for help on
this.

This can also happen if you have the database open directly on the live site
in Access, which can done via FP.

Thomas -

I connected to the live web via Frontage and went into Server/Administration
and deleted the subweb which contained the database. I was then able to
re-upload it.

Trouble is, I now don't have permission to write to it! I've started a new
thread about the permissions as the problem has changed slightly.

I'm hoping to get this sorted overnight as it's supposed to be Live
tomorrow - I don't have time to wait for the hosts to get back to work!

Thanks for advice so far,

Jackie

Jackie,

Open the subweb directly on the remote server in FP, then Tools | Web
Settings | Database and verify or recreate your database connection, this
should set the permissions for the fpdb folder and the database for the
subweb.

I had a similar less complicated issue. Do as you did
before by deleting it from the server but before upload
the same file again RIGHT CLICK IT and make sure READ ONLY
is not checked.
