Hi,
After installing and uninstalling windows 2003 sp1 - the following error is being received by those trying to edit files on the server or upload files

server error: cannot open "*.htm" file for writing

where "*.htm" can be any file.

FPSE 2002 recently reinstalled.

Thank you in advance.

Run a Server Health check and check all options for each web site.

Hi,

I tried that on the server.

It did not resolve the problem.

I have also fully removed FPSE 2002 from the website, re-installed them,
recalculated the webs, etc.

I don't have that problem.

Were your server(s) all up-to-date with all other patches before installing SP1?

You didn't download and install any FP extensions update from the Microsoft, as there are no updated
FP2002 extensions for Windows 2003 server?

Yes, they were up to date.

No, We did not download and install any FP extensions updates from MS.

We did uninstall FPSE 2002 and IIS 6.0 earlier this weekend before we tried
the sp1 removal.
(FPSE 2002 was actually uninstalled and reinstalled twice.
Once to see if a fresh re-installation would correct the problem, the second
time was before we uninstalled IIS6.0)

IIS6.0 and FPSE 2002 were reinstalled prior to the sp1 removal.

Since you have removed SP1, it might be a good idea to uninstall and then re-install IIS and the
FP2002 extensions.

When I installed SP1, I made no changes to the system to try and make it work, other than to run a
Server Health Check on few of the web sites to see it that would solve the problem with saving
files. Since running the Server Health Check didn't solve the problem, at that point, I uninstalled
SP1.

Hi,

Thank you for your patience.

I learned.
Your recommendation appears to be a good one to follow.
From now on that is how we will handle the server.

With the uninstall and reinstall of IIS and FPSE 2002, do you recomment
backing up the IIS and importing the backup when the reinstall is completed?
Also, when uninstalling IIS 6.0, should the FP 2002 extensions be removed
from the websites first? [that is what was recommended previously]

I actually have not had to uninstall or re-install IIS during normal operations, only when upgrading
the OS, but in general the webs are not removed, and when you remove the FP extensions, you kill all
subweb/subsites, along with any permissions, and these have to be add back individually for each
web.

Here is how I have my server set up...

IIS and the FP extensions are installed to their default location on the C drive.

The web site are all located in a folder called Webs on the D Drive.

Each web site is assigned a static IP address and the IIS Home Directory setting is point to
D:\Webs\WebName.

When I upgraded to Windows 2003 Server from Windows 2000, I did a clean install of the C Drive and I
did not touch my D drive, then after configuring Windows 2003, I opened IIS, and re-assigned the IP
Address and Home Directory, then under All Task for each web site, upgraded to the FP2002 extensions
and then re-assigned permissions. Since I do a lot of ASP work, I also reset the Application root
for each web and subweb.

My D drive is backed up every night to a second HD, and the C drive weekly.

Hi,

This is similar to what we have - with a few differences.

Thank you so kindly for sharing your expertise.
