First question, why are there no discussion groups for
Windows 2003 Server? Is it not officially released yet?

I have a Windows 2003 Server running A/D with a Windows
2003 Server only network and about once a day the Pre-
Windows 2000 User Logon Name under the Account tab for the
Domain Administrator's account properties reverts back to
a previous account name.

For a background to this issue, when the server was first
set up the Administrator account was renamed to LocAdmin.
After DCPROMO was run, the administrator account was
renamed to LABAdmin. Every day or two I have a problem
logging in to a server resource so I check the Account
properties for the LABAdmin account and the User logon
name (pre-Windows 2000) has changed back to LocAdmin.

Too wierd. None of the other account settings have
changed, and everytime I change it back to LABAdmin,
within a day or so it's back to being LocAdmin.

Bug, misconfiguration? Microsoft? Hello? I'm not paying
for a support call on this one.... :)

microsoft.public.windows.server.<Many>

Next time it changes, use http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=816109
to change it back.

Thanks for that Jerold.

When I set the GP to rename the administrator account I
expected it to rename the local administrator accounts,
not the domain administrator accounts. It's strange how it
only changed the pre-Windows 2000 user logon name and not
the A/D logon name. Looks like Microsoft needs to have two
settings in GP. One for renaming Domain Admin accounts and
one for local admin accounts.
