I recently had to reinstall win2k. Backed up pst file to secon
harddrive.I am using Outlook 2003.Problem:
-Not able to import from pst file (not having the right permission)
-Write protection field is not ticked, but
-scanpst claims file is write protected and stops
-field "Encrypted" is ticked and i get an error message when trying
to untick
- I cant copy or cut the file "access denied, file may be in use"
I have a second copy of the pst file on the harddrive, exactly the sam
problem.Filesize is nowhere near 2GB.
I do of course have administrator privileges to the computer.

My windows and office installation is in Danish but I hope yo
understand my translation of the "error messages".

Any suggestions ???

I don't really have any other solution then to reinstall either window
or office (depending on which outlook you're using) and trying again o
to try and copy the file to another location, maybe it's located on
bad cluster or something. Apart from that, maybe it's useful to open a
email acount with an IMAP provider. That way, your mail stays on th
internet and not on your computer, which means that all that ex- an
importing's history. The following provider has no mailbox size-limi
for private users:

www.fusemail.co

As I wrote, I am not able to copy (or cut) the file to another location
I find it hard to see how reinstalling should help.
I am sure its not a bad cluster issue since I have the same proble
with another file in a different location

Sorry, I read only the first three issues. Perhaps you should try doin
these things in Windows safe mode. That way the chance that som
program or service is hogging the files is smaller. Also, if you log i
with the administrator account you'll be at least absolutely sure it'
not a security issue. You may also want to check if your virusscanne
program hasn't quarantined the files or something. If that doesn't d
the trick, I don't know what will

Not likely, but with Microsoft anything's possible. I think that som
program is blocking access to these files and the best way to ge
around it is to go to safe mode so that as few programs as possible ar
active

I am now convinced it is a security issue and not outlook related (Saf
mode reboot didnt work by the way).I also copied my "favorites folde
to the second harddrive:same problem, cant copy or cut,the "encrypted
field is ticked and the system wont let me untick.
Weird

What file system are you using on that drive? If it's NTFS you shoul
have a look at the NTFS security options for that drive. But then it'
not so much an outlook problem huh?:

For some reason I must have encrypted the files on my ol
installation.Since i wasnt aware of this i didnt backup up my privat
key when i formatted the drive so now i am seriously screwed. As far
as can see there is no way to decrypt the files if you havent got th
private key from the original installation :-(
Thanks anyway - I have learned a few things about EFS in this process
