Hi you all,

I got a problemn with logging into my windows xp. I
started my computer and found out that my username picture
where you are required to click and enter your password
WASN'T THERE! Meaning I CAN NOT LOG INTO WINDOWS! I have
tried starting windows using every possible advanced
option, but it always ended up at the screen where I am
required to enter my password. And as I said, the problem
is that I can't see anything.

I BEG OF ANYONE TO HELP ME OUT HERE! ANYONE

Thanks in anticipation.

Big Will...

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice quickly and then enter you name and password in the
classic logon box that appears.

Michael - is your crystal ball working, because mine isn't. CADx2 ain't
gonna help him if he's running Home, now is it?

Indeed - but he never mentioned Home or Pro. (so I made a huge risky
assumption)
So we should also tell him to boot in safe mode and then logon as the local
administrator.

I always assume the other way round as most systems for home use are sold
with, erm, Home. ;o) No point in confusing people.

hello,

I have the same problem: no logon screen anymore. After boot (Wxp Pro SP1),
it shows an empty screen with only the background image, and the mouse
pointer. I can move the mouse, but that's all. Safe mode: same problem (but
with the save-mode background). PC belongs to a domain. Took HD out, and
installed in other pc, and performed search last mod. files. Last files were
log files from a windows update, performed via SUS (I approved updates
recently). Very last file = dump413f.tmp. Tried to open it with notepad.
Starts with PAGEDUMP and then much unreadable text.

Other file that was changed at the last minute was xpsp1hfm.log.
Here an extract of the last few lines:

--> END extract

I believe that windows update of Q839645 failed (crashed : dump413f.tmp
file) and that it left system in an un-startable state....

I am afraid that other PC's that install the updates will fail as well. I
didn't find any fix so far, but I really want one. I don't want to reinstall
PC from scratch, without really knowing what happened, and how to avoid it in
future, or how to fix it if it happens once again.

Any help is HIGHLY appreciated.
