Sent Items folder not showing

Hi

I have a group mailbox setup for 5 users , one user however cannot see the
"sent Items" folder but the others can?? Permissions are fine as he can send
on behalf of etc.

any help much appreciated

Where did you set the permissions?
Has the user added the shared mailbox to his folder list (advanced
properties of Exchange server service in Outlook)?

yes he does have the mailbox added in the folder list , i can see all of the
other folders , inbox deleted etc. but not sent.

the user is added as a "user" in exchange on the mailbox itself - all the
other users are set up as "users" but can see the sent items folder?

Yes, but as I asked, how did you set the permissions? You can grant full
mailbox rights on the server and not have to individually assign permissions
to folders. Much easier, if that is the desired goal.
