Sends multiple copies of e-mails with large attachments

When I send e-mails with large attachments (~3+MB),
sometimes Outlook sends multiple copies of that e-mail.
By watching the Send/Receive details box I can see it
create a new (duplicate) task when it starts sending
another copy.

Seems like it thinks it timed-out and then starts sending
all over again, even though the first copy made it
through.

I see plenty of evidence on-line that others have this
problem, but no solutions.

So please post here with your specifics, and maybe we can
collect enough data to give someone the clues needed to
find a solution. Here are mine:

-XP Pro (all critical updates done)
-Outlook 2002 SP3 as POP3/SMTP client (not Exchange)
-McAfee AV 6.0 Home
-LinkSys BEFW11S4 firewall router; lastest firmware
-DSL connection
-tends to occur when network is slow (evenings)

Thx.

More experimentation results:
- disabled McAfee and also the HAWK & e-mail scanner plug-
ins in Outlook
- took router/firewall out & made direct DSL connection
- cranked up SMTP server timeout to 10 min (from 2)
Still get multiple entries in the "Outlook Send/Receive
Progress" dialog box (new one every few minutes - time
varies) while sending, but closer inspection shows that
these multiple entries do not necessarily correspond to
multiple sent copies at the recipient. (??!)

Any idea if the multiple entries are normal (& correct!)
behavior?

Thx again.

No. I wrote a post about this a month or more ago, looking for help. I have
tried to uninstall and re-load as well as repair. It appears to have started
after either the SP2 or SP3 update, but those same updates will load again
when you try to reinstall! ICK! I'm having to send attachments over 1/2M on
Hotmail, because Outlook won't work. Any help would be appreciated!
