Sending to Word - Symbol font problem

When I send a powerpoint presentation to word using the File - Send To -
Microsoft Word, any symbols within the notes which have been created using
shortcut keys, e.g. Alt 248 for a degree sign, turns into a square box in
Word. If I then highlight the box and change the font back to Times New
Roman, it turns back into a degree sign.

Why does the font change to Symbol when the files are transferred, and how
can I stop this happening?

I am using Powerpoint 2003. The problem doesn't occur in new documents, but
old presentations made in the past. If I insert the symbols in a new file,
it is ok. However, I have a lot of past presentations which we regularly
use, and it is when I add to these that I get the problem. It also occurs
with 'symbols' which Powerpoint adjusts with the autoformat, such as hyphens
and smart quotation marks, which appear as squares when sent to Word.

Can you send me a sample presentation which exhibits this issue? Please
email it to ShyamPillai at gmail dot com.

Thanks for your help. I'm having problems replicating what it was doing
earlier, it's one of those intermittent problems. As soon as it happens again
I'll try sending you an example of it. Thanks again.

I created a 102 slide presentation, use Send To to Word. The .doc file is 22
pages long. On two of the pages, dashes, quotation marks, and apostrophes
show up as Wingdings. In PPT, these marks are clearly in Arial as is the
entire document in PPT and in Word. I have just emailed to you a .ppt and a
..doc file showing the problem. I use PPT 2003 (11.6564.6568) SP2. Thanks
for any help.

I don't know who you emailed, but I can tell you that I've seen this
problem -- but I don't really know how to fix it.

You can try File|Save As and choose WMF, then insert those images manually
into Word. If WMF doesn't do the trick, try EMF instead (although PPT 2003
actually sends EMFs to Word, so that may be the issue).

Sometimes retyping the text on the affected slides might help. You might
check the language settings for the textboxes on those slides -- and also
double-check to ensure that Arial is the font there. Maybe change it to
Times New Roman, save, and then change back to Arial and save again.

Oops - my mistake (new to this site). I emailed it to Shyam Pillai. Also,
the problem is in the Note, not the slides themselves. Thanks for trying to
help :-)

Ah. It's not usually cool to send unsolicited mail to people you see in the
newsgroup.

Only thing I know, then, is to change the font to TNR (in PPT) and then back
to Arial and try it again.

Sometimes retyping the text helps.

You may just have to fix it in Word, though.

It's frustrating because it's so random. You can proofread the heck outta
your notes, but it's still way too easy to miss one of those text changes.
