I want to send a large file. It is too large to send e mail and I don't want
to take the time to split it up. I looked into groups and that seemed to be
a dead end. What's the solution?

Hi

It depends where you would like to send it to, what type of connection, and how secure
it should be.

If the recipient has a system that is equipped for receiving file (I.e. an available VPN
connection and an Upload server) you might want to contact them and ask for
instructions.

Other wise you have to set a system to transfer files. There are many way to do so and
the preferred method would depend on your system, the type of Internet connection, and
willing are you to spend time on learning how to set it up.

As an example, if you have broadband connection you can set an ftp server on your
computer and the recipient can download it through the Internet. WinXP comes with an
application called IIS that is also an ftp server.

Another very simple method to make file available to download is described in the page:
http://www.ezlan.net/serving.html

If the transfer is done by downloading the files from you computer you need to set your
system to be available thought the Internet this page describe few options in doing so:

If you want to 'send' it over the Internet, the target has to be running
some service which allows you to access it, such as: FTP, Web Server, VPN,
RDP. Or, as in the case of e-mail, both the source and the target have to
have access to some other server providing such service

If you want to make the file available for download by others, then you have
to be running the service.

A simple solution may be something like

, free and does not require setting up any services or ports
on either PC.
