Sending email slow after installing recent updates

I am running Outlook 2002 on a Dell 8250 machine with 56K
dial up. I also run Norton Antivirus. After installing
some resent Outlook updates, sending emails are extremely
slow. I shutdown Norton and it is still slow. If you
view details of transmission, it seems to continue to
processing and adds another task to list and percentage
drops. I basically cannot send email with any size(with
or without attachments).

Thanks in advance of any help.

Try going to Tools -> Options -> Other and turning off Instant Messaging
integration.

I have already done this. It did not help any. Does
anyone have any other ideas.
Thanks,
Jerry

I had the same unbearably slow email and lots of timeout errors - as I read these many messages on slow mail (about the first dozen posts), it occurred to me that maybe my email account was messed up - after trying a few things to no avail, I remembered that PC-cillin had forced some changes so it could intercept the mail. So, I changed back to the original config and it seems to fetch the mail quickly and without errors after several tries.
