Sending attachments problem

I use Windows XP & Outlook 2002. When I send an attached
file (1 MB), Outlook never completes the send even though
the recipients are receiving multiple copies of the
message. On one occasion, I left the send message in the
Outbox for several hours until the message detail log
showed 100s of attempts to send it & the recipient told
me he received 13 copies. I eventually cancelled the
send command by deleting the message from the Outbox.

Ideas? Thanks for the help

I had the indentical problem with Outlook 2003; you're
probably also receiving an "SMTP Server timeout" message
from Outlook. Apparently Outlook has a bug which makes it
think that a timeout has occurred and the transmission did
not complete when in fact it did. I'm on a DSL line -
which may or may not be part of Outlook's problem.

In any event, I found another message on this board where
the poster suggested setting the SMTP Server Timeout value
to 10 minutes; this can be found on the advanced tab of
the Outlook Options panel (there's another settings button
on that panel you need to press).

I set the timeout to 10 minutes as recommended, and the
problem was solved - the message completed normally and
was removed from the Outbox.

BTW, before looking through this board I reported the
problem to my ISP (Verizon). The CSR said that if the
message was delivered, it wasn't likely to be their
problem.
