"Send to" question

Under Win98_SE, when I used "Send to" to send a file from the desktop to My
Documents, it would move it. But I just noticed that under XP, it just
copies the file and leaves it on the desktop. I usually use "Send to" to get
files off the desktop.

I couldn't find any info in the help files.

Is there some way to change how this works?

Thanks.

You can create a copy to/move to option to the r-click menu by following the
steps below.

Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ AllFilesystemObjects \ shellex \
ContextMenuHandlers \
Right-click the ContextMenuHandlers entry, and from the menu select New >
Key
Name the new key Copy To
Repeat step 3, but this time for the name (step 4) choose Move To
Change the (Default) string value found in the Copy To key to
{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}
Change the (Default) string value found in the Move To key to
{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}
Close the registry editor

Thanks, I'll try that when I have time.

Another XP comment: after the latest round of Windows Update installs, the
shut-down menu has changed.

I liked the original shut-down screen in which I just had to click on an
icon to do what I wanted. Now I've got a damned drop-down menu.

Whey do people keep trying to fix things that ain't broke?!

I have no idea about the "shut down menu". I have my PC set so that when I
close it, it's closed!

I meant when I click "Start/Shut Down" I used to get icons, including
"Shutdown" and "Restart" Etc. Just click on the applicable icon.

Now I get a drop-down box, which is set to the last action I chose. I don't
always want to shut down; sometimes I want to Restart. It's just more of an
inconvenience this way.

The other way is just more logical.

Hi Ken,

Duh,,, It didn't register with me when you said "shutdown menu". I use an
icon on the desktop to shutdown and, really forgot about the 3 choice
nuisance. I checked and it is still available on my machine. I have all
critical updates installed so, it would seem, updates are not the cause of
your "menu" disappearing.

I don't have a solution to offer, other than, post back with a new subject
line and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

I prefer the drop-down box. How do I get that?

It's much better for keyboard use - press Alt-F4 then <enter>

Well, I don't know what the deal is. That new shut-down menu and a few
other things changed after I had done my most recent Windows Update visit. I
didn't read all the descriptions; maybe there was some info in there I
missed.

The results might vary according to XP version.
