How do I edit the items in the (right-click) "Send to" list? There are a
couple of unwanted strays in there that I need to cull.

Click Start, select Run and type sendto in the Open box and click OK. That
will open your Send To folder where you can then delete anything that is no
longer valid.

Delete what you don't want out of the Send To folder.

The trouble is, the items I don't want aren't in any of the Send To folders.
They're USB-connected pocket/flash drives. I don't recall these drives
appearing in the Send To list(s) before. Is this something new?

I'm not sure how new it is, whether it was part of original XP or was added
with an SP, but it has been around a while. Yes, if you connect a removable
drive such as that, it automatically appears in the Send To list but you
won't find a shortcut to it in the sendto folder.

You can remove the drive from the list, but doing so also makes it invisible
to Windows Explorer, meaning it also won't appear there or when you open My
Computer.

The drive would still be accessible by directly opening the drive letter, it
just won't appear in Send To, Explorer or My Computer.

This is controlled via group policy on XP Pro, meaning manually modifying
the registry in XP Home. Let me know if you are interested in additional
info on this and I'll dig it out. Or you can search on NoDrives at your
favorite search engine as that is the name of the registry value that needs
to be manipulated. The policy name is Hide these specified drives in My
Computer.

Hi,

Nope.

Hide the removable drives from the Send To menu:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/nodrives.htm

That's the only option, Bob. This also hides the drive from other places in the shell, but you can access the drive-letter from Start, Run dialog or from Command Prompt.

I guess I never noticed it before. After posting the original message I
discovered that USB devices disappear from the Send To list when they're
removed from the system so I've decided it's not an issue. It was
disconcerting however.

I think I'll leave well enough alone. However I do find it a bit odd that
D:, which is a 120 gig hard drive installed inside the computer as a slave,
doesn't appear in the Send To list.

Yes, they only show up while the drive is present, so usually not an issue.

The auto creation of a send to entry is only for removable drives. You can
put a shortcut to your D drive in the sendto folder and it will show up and
you can send files there.

Ok, it would have been useful if you mentioned it was USB drives. I see
both Tom and Ramesh have responded to this part of the question.
