Hi Craig,
In Outlook 2000 IMO mode, we can set the Send/Receive option in
Tools/Options/Mail Delivery. If you cannot see this option, then you must
be in the CW mode.
Outlook 2000 has two main installation types: "Corporate or Workgroup" (CW)
or "Internet Mail Only" (IMO). Different modes need the different
troubleshooting steps.? What is the Outlook 2000 installation mode in your
computer? To find out, please follow the steps below:
-- Open Outlook 2000.
-- Click Help --> About Microsoft Outlook?
Check the second line in the Window. If it reads: Corporate or Workgroup,
then the installation mode is CW Mode. If it reads: Internet Mail Only,
then it is IMO Mode.
About how to switch between the two modes, please refer to:
253397 OL2000: Switching from Corporate or Workgroup to Internet Mail Only
Mode

If you are using an Exchange mailbox, then you have to use CW mode. For the
MAPI connection, Exchange server will push the new message to its client so
you don't need to retrieve them actively.
Hope the information helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let
me know.
Regards,
Pat Cai
