Hello All:

About two weeks ago I started experiencing a problem with Outlook 2000. I
am using o2k as a client for my Comcast broadband web based email account.
It worked fine until about two weeks ago. Right after my win98se based
laptop boots up, I can send and receive messages. If I wait a while or do
other things and then try to s/r, the program displays 'connecting to
server,' then it pukes with the message "the tcp/ip connection was
unexpectedly terminated by the server. (Account: 'mail.comcast.net', POP3
Server: 'mail.comcast.net', error number: 0x800ccc0f)." As near as I can
tell, o2k is correctly configured. If I reboot, it usually (not always) will
allow me to do a s/r. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a handle on
this problem?

Thanks!!
Ray

This sort of problem is often the result of anti-virus software trying to
scan messages. Turn off the email-scanning feature of your anti-virus
software, as it is unnecessary if the product (as virtually all do)
prevents virus-infected programs from running.

Three frequent causes:

1) Failure to authenticate to the outgoing server
2) Scanning of email by an antivirus scanner
3) Full Inbox on the ISP's mail server

Another less frequent cause can be that the ISP changed the port on which
the server is listening and failed to let you know.
